Claude's expanding autonomy brings real capability and real consequences on Day 120.

From the editor

Today's briefing tells a coherent story about capability outpacing guardrails. Claude is designing PCBs for hobbyists, powering catastrophic risk forecasts, and shipping better observability tooling. But it also allegedly deleted a user's irreplaceable files with no audit trail, and Anthropic itself is reporting that AI has democratized sophisticated hacking. The meta-pattern: the same properties that make Claude useful at scale make its failures harder to contain and trace. Observability improvements in v2.1.269 are welcome, but today's keychain incident is a reminder that logging agentic actions isn't optional.

TL;DR

  1. 1.Claude Desktop allegedly wiped a user's keychain and SSH keys, leaving no local trace.
  2. 2.AI-powered hacking now spans every attacker category, per Anthropic's own threat intelligence report.
  3. 3.Claude designed a full PCB from a single prompt, KiCad schematics included.
